John Tyree, III, 62, Kokomo, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2011, at Morgantown Healthcare Inn, in Morgantown. He was born August 31, 1948, in Washington Court House, Ohio, to John and Betty Jane (Johns) Tyree, Jr. He married Katherine Hizer on August 9, 1987, and she survives.

He retired from the United States Air Force. During his service, he served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the VFW Post 1152 and American Legion Post 6 in Kokomo, the Masons, and the VFW Post 1152 and American Legion Post 653 in...

In addition to his wife, Katherine Tyree, he is survived by one daughter, Nicole (Jay) Holzinger, Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Jonea Fowler-Tyree, Tucson, Arizona, Jared Tengesdalh, Dayton, Ohio, Jalen Holzinger, Dayton, Ohio, and Jayla Holzinger, Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Earl (Dorothy) Burns, Columbus, Ohio, and Tony (Betsy) Tyree, Washington Court House, Ohio; three sisters, Beverly (Lamar) Smith, Orangeburg, South Carolina, Debra (Louie) Harris, Bloomingburg, Ohio, and Martina Tyree, Kokomo; several cousins, nieces, and nephews; and one special nephew, Lance Edward Tyree.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Terry Burns and Mark Tyree; and sisters, Mareta Tyree and Ellen Jane Tyree.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Saturday at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Cremation arrangements are being handled by Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home.
